Sunday morning my pastor preached from 2nd Peter. At that time I realized from the clean pressed pages and lack of notes that I had not spent much time with Peter. So now I feel compelled to read and learn from the words God spoke through him.
This morning I spent time in 1 Peter chapter 1, focusing on verses 3-12.
My NIV subtitles this section "Praise to God for a Living Hope"
Peter is writing to believers who were scattered throughout the regions of Asia Minor (now Turkey). He was encouraging them through the trials and sufferings they encounterd for being Christians and reminding them of the great hope they have through knowing Christ.
Just like us, these Christians had not seen Christ, but knew Him through faith and experienced the joy that comes from knowing Him.
We may not be persecuted today in the way our Christian brothers of that time were, but we do face many trials in our lives. We never really understand why we have to suffer the things we do, but most can look back and see how during the trial we were refined and brought to a new place in our relationship with Christ.
"In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire- may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed."
1 Peter 1:6-7
It is my prayer that nothing said on this blog will ever in any way discourage or hinder the cause of Christ. It is my desire that through writing this blog I will become closer and obtain a deeper relationship with Christ and maybe write something that will encourage someone else.
Love,
Leigh Anne
( Excuse me ahead of time if I type " Christina" instead of "Christian". It is very hard for me to put that " a" before the "n"and not after. LOL LOL )

ReplyDeleteThis is a very inspiring post LeighAnne. I am glad you are comfortable with your new place of worship. Its all about where HE wants us, not where we want to be. Sounds like you are going where HE is leading you. Hope you have a good week! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI love Peter because I can so relate to him and his foot in the mouth syndrome! Thanks for sharing!
